does anyone know if you can tow an SSR 4 wheels down, or whether I would need to get a dolly if I decide to tow it behind a motorhome? thank you

We pulled my SSR behind our motorhome on a trailer this past winter and what a pain in the butt that trailer was.

Not sure what we will do this winter. We have to make a decision on whether or not to drag it or just pull another type of vehicle.

As stated above, talk to Furykay, he pulls his.

There is a pic of ours below and to see Kays click on the following link:

Thank you for both replies. I sent Furykay a private message, but seeing the photo that you linked to tells me he pulls it 4 down - so that it's possible. Now I need to find out from him whether he had to do anything to the transmission, whether he had to remove a fuse so that the odometer doesn't record alot of miles, etc... Thanks again for the advice as it is appreciated. Nice photos - by the way!

Camping World carries this device. I also have a 40' diesel pusher and have towed a smal suv behind. Upon thinking about Laughlin this year, I am going the trailer route. I know it is probably a pain, but I don't want my:ssr connected to my motorhome with wheels on the road. Just my 2 cents.

Towing SSR

I have towed my auto trans. 4 0n the ground used a Remco Pump. I have been told that a 6 speed could not be towed 4 0n the ground, the trans would not have oil pump to cool. TO MY SURPRISE yesterday here at LOWES SPEED WAY ,I saw a black 6 speed SSR being towed behind a M.H. He had a RENCO Drive Shaft Disconnect.I do not know how they cut off 2 inches and welded the new end. I know that the SSR had alot of drive shaft problems at first. Must have a aftermarket steel D.S.)

Don't like a Baseplate

Buy a REMCO DRIVE SHAFT DISCONNECT ( It will work on a standard or automatic) and PULL FROM THE FRONT on a TOW DOLLY .THE SSR DOESN"T LOOK GOOD BEING PULLED BACKWARD. GO to a rential center and rent one first .I personally donot like a tow dolly...:smash:banghead:lol:)

Neither did we. We bought an aluminum car hauler. It was great. Had a rock guard, mag wheels. It was a class act.

Towing the SSR

My trip to Maggie Valley Rally is the first time I have used my new Enclosed Trailer . So far no problems.I decided to put the SSR'S in a trailer ,got lazy , and got tired of haveing to WASH upon arrival " put in clean - takeout clean".:banghead:smash:lol:)

Could you post pictures of the enclosed trailer? I want to pull mine to Laughlin this coming year and I was considering an open trailer, but the idea of an enclosed trailer is tempting.

In my opinion, tow dolly is not an option. I pulled a 1971 charger from Chicago to Arizona many years ago. 2 problems resulted: body damage from the dolly pivot around the dog leg by the rear quater panels, and front end needed to be rebuilt. Too much weight was what I was told. Anyway if you do pull it 4 on the ground, pull the drive shaft. I don't know what it will entail on an SSR, but make sure you seal the tail of the tranny so dirt and leaking does not cause problems. Make sure you mark the shaft on both ends before removal so it goes back in the same way (balancing). Maybe that is too old school, but towed other cars that way with no problems (or could have been just lucky too) :) Good luck.
p.s. I am pretty sure many state laws require physical disconnect of some sort for safety reasons; like that device in the above posts.
