More Horsepower

I am toying with the idea of adding some horsepower to my 04 UV. I have looked on the Magnacharger site and it appears that is the way to go??

I'm looking for advice on how to buy a supercharger. How easy are they to install? I'm not a certified mechanic but I can follow directions and do have a well equipped shop to work in.

What kind of gain should I expect? Is there anything else I should do as a result of adding the power?

Sorry I just have a lot of questions and know someone here can help out. Appreciate any help.

Sorry to be the one to share this, but Magnuson no longer offers the 112 kit for the SSR. Joe Delano and I have been kicking around the installation of a Magnuson TVS2300 on the 5.3. It would be an interesting installation, for sure. The 2300 makes boost and horsepower so,easily that the 5.3 would really sing.

You can expect about 5% increase in power for every pound of boost. For a TVS2300 on a 6.0, this means 7 pounds of boost will yield about a 140hp increase. The 5.3 typically runs about 8-10 pounds of boost to wake it up really well.

Cost of a TVS2300 will be in the $8k to $10k range. You should really consider a 6.0 liter crate motor transplant......... Might be cheaper.

Start with a good tuner

Here's what I did.
We started with a few tweeks to the shifting and the basic air/fuel ratios with Mark's laptop and HP tuning software. With these changes nice improvement.

On to the dyno got up to about 125mph and 209 rear wheel horsepower when the speed limiter stopped us.
Bumped the limiter up to 155 and got 235 rwhp and 263.2 rw torque. 131.4 miles per hour
Mark tweeks a little more and the next pull is 262.1 rwhp,292.1 rw torque and 141.0 mph.

Mark's goal air/fuel ratio of about 12/1 and maximum safe timing advance.
The lower line on the graph reflects that ratio.
Great results:cool

Based on a dollars per horsepower scale, a nitrous oxide installation may make sense. It can be a n on demand system and not seriously affect the daily drive ability of the vehicle. Cam, heads, and headers will help make power by improving the breathing too.

I do not know why everyone leaves out the fact of how many miles are on you 5.3 engine? You start adding horsepower to a warn out engine and you are looking for trouble. I suggest you start at the bottom and work up and do it with a plan of where you want to end up. This is from someone with 50+ years of engine building. Hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone for their input. The engine only has 14,500 on it. I should have posted that. Hardly broken in really. I am thinking about a tune for now. I am familiar with the extra 100 hp of the 06's and just want a little boost. At least that's my thought for now. Thanks again to everyone.
