Try turning off the traction control. I had the same experience in a Crown Vic with traction control. I coudn't keep the rear end from swaying back and forth in a heavy snow storm. I turned the traction off and had no trouble controling the rear end with the throttle. I will try my SSR this afternoon in the snow to check. I think these low tech traction systems react too slowly in this type of condition causing the loss of control.
